To answer your questions:

1. It should work with all released versions of 8.4;
2. We can't tell for sure, it would require testing. Usually HAL code needs to be adapted to support smaller screens;
3. There is no getting around this error because we support only the latest Android client version, which is currently 8.4. Also, large amount of Android bugs were fixed between 8.2 and 8.4 and it should be more stable now.
