Windows client gets stuck at "We are launching your Company""

There is an annoying feature in Standard ERP, whereby if the server is not running, or is running on a different IP and/or port, the clients display a screen saying "Please wait. We are launching your company." On Windows (not tested Mac) the client software gets stuck with the green progress bar about one quarter of the way across.

If the server is running but on a different IP or port, it does not seem possible to change the client settings, instead you have to delete the client HDB and start again. This loses all window positions, printer settings etc. The only workaround I've found for this is to run any system on the old IP/port, open the client, cancel the login screen, then change the company settings, but this relies on the old IP/port still being available. Is there any other way to point the client at the new IP/port without losing the client HDB?
