It's definitely the case that when you upgrade to 8.4, you cannot log in with the old Person/Global User code and password. But I think this has been reported as a bug.

Sounds like you're talking about REST API. And that your are overwriting data with older values if B managed to read record before A finished to update it. Classic conflict resolution ...
