Are DBHold and DBFlush still useful? I've seen them in some source HAL but they may be very old HAL functions. I'm wondering if there good reasons to use them, for performance optimisation?

I havent really seen them in use for over 10 years. Maybe if you´re using db accelerator but that ain't in use either really

From what I've read, using these will store the updated records in memory and then write them to the database in bulk, instead of each record writing to the database in turn. So perhaps there's still a small performance benefit, even now? It would be useful to get some advice on this from a C-level developer.
