Upgrading from early 8.4 to current 8.4 hall error

I have two customers using pre 2018 8.4 versions that I wish to upgrade to current.
Both these when I try and upgrade fail with the following error:

I cannot trace this error in my code.
Can anyone advise the reason please?

Hi, Julia,

Could you please tell how were you updating the version (was it through MyStandard>>Choose Country>>Update)?

Also, do the customers have halcusts and, if yes, how were you uploading the updated halcusts (was it through attach halcust functionality from Update Version pop-up window)?

Both customers have halcust, so I downloaded the latest version from Standard Install and was testing locally. I would always do this first with the customers hal and data before going anywhere near a live installation.

One customer is hosted by HW and one on their own Windows Server. They have completely different halcusts.
Both halcusts compile ok with the current version

The error is when restoring the backup from the earlier 8.4 into the new 8.4
I have tried this both with a Windows Client and with a Mac Server in terminal.

The hal errors that show are both files that are not in the halcust of either.

Sorry for delay, but I would still need some additional details to get one of our developers to investigate the issue.

1. From which version to which version were you exporting/importing backups? Please provide build numbers together with the version date, that might be helpful;
2. Did you try different methods of importing the backup to server/client, such as: (1) import through parameters.txt, (2) GUI, (3) drag&drop (WIN only), (4) command line? If yes - does the error happen with all of these methods? If no - which method gives the error?

My latest tests have brought me to a theory on this.

If a database has phone numbers in it that are longer than the field, that is greater than 20, then the import fails and does not complete.
Earlier versions were tolerant of this. The message shows: Too long string during import.... but after a number of these the import fails.
I have increased the length of the telephone number fields in hal I did them one by one, until all the messages cleared and the import completed, almost, it still crashes very near the end. So the database is still not sound.
I am assuming that normalised telephone numbers or something else that may have changed to cause this.

I am now trying to reconfirm this in my other database, I am aware that they have some long values, these may be be in other fields, I will check

Is the message after which the crash occurs is still the same (Too long string during import)?

Could you please test it and, if repeatable, report this issue?

I have tried testing just now with importing backup to 8.4 2018.12.09 build 015 with strings longer than 20 symbols in phone number field and it worked fine - the system just "cut off" the exceeding amount of symbols.

If you are able to repeat this issue, please report it.

The errors show as follows: ( I will drop this CUVc into sample data and then if this does not fail, I will also drop ACTVc data into sample as the errors also shows there.) Last resort is to get the customer to tidy up - but they have a very large quantity

during start up of 8.4 180116 with empty database. No halcust
I have reported it as a crash bug

But to prevent support mail about this issue, would be nice if it got fixed
